Everyone is invited

Visit The Friendly Chatter Cafe, look at it on the map and read about it in the SL Destination guide.

If you decide to blog about this location or use it in your machinima, please let me know, so I can link back to your work. :)

Everyone is invited. :) (This was my invitation inworld).
Just looking at the listing of what you can find around SL9B, one knows it is going to be an amazing party with so much to see and experience.

LEA gives land for art again this spring

Linden donates 20 regions for art in Second Life again, via LEA Full Region Endowment, says Bryn Oh (Website). If you are an artist, curator, musician, performer, scripter.. you can get land for a project for the period of March 15th to August 15th, if the committee approves your application. Submit before March 1st. Good luck :)

Copy not

Here is an important lesson about why copybotting really sucks. It is insane how people use someone else's creative work like this. And honestly, SL should do more about it.

Lacking imagination is no excuse, it is not creating if you steal.

Stray

Speaking of inspiring blogs, I just found this awesome lucky board at Stray Pig (SLurl), through Lemondrop. And I won a Stray donkey! SO cute!

Changes will be coming

It's my rezzday and I promised myself I would ease up on fashion blogging by this day. Changes will be coming to this blog. I am thinking of getting back to documenting more of my Second life experience.

I have become quite obsessed with fashion. Most of my posts have had unique (not previously posted by me) items, so it took me hours daily to find the things to use in each of them. And I paid for most of the items that were not freebies. (Heartfelt thanks to sponsors like House of Starlight, Baby Monkey shoes and Jaqueline's). I waited for the lucky letters and did the MM-board rounds. I kept my eye on groups for sales events and other fashion groups. I read a lot of blogs every day to find interesting new places. I was very inspired by the creativity and talent in SL blogosphere.

It was fun and really addictive, but I need time for other things now. I am learning more about creating and building. I want to spend more time with friends and not always keep an eye for the next thing to blog while exploring a cool place. I will not leave fashion completely, but it will be just one of the aspects of this blog and not the dominate feature. I will tune down my obsession to spot every new trend and do every hunt and sales round. And I will take it easy about blogging in general in the future. Promise. :) (My friends have been nagging, lol).

I wish to thank everyone who has supported me during my first year in Second life. This has been very inspiring, fun and educational to me. I have been ill for some time in rl. Not life threatening, but it has kept me cooped up indoors quite a bit. So SL has offered me an unique window to a social life I could not fully nurture in rl. All my friendships in SL are real, mind you. They just take a different form than going to a café in rl and chatting.

I have also found Second life an amazing tool for those who lack means or are bed bound by an illness. I have met a very lovely young man who gets to fly a pirate ship and explore wonders of the world virtually, while being rather isolated in real life. I have met so many people who find solace and comfort in SL, when their real life is treating them unfairly. Or just people who take care of a family, or work from home, and wish for company and entertainment because of that.

SL and virtual life in general, goes beyond social networking. You don't have to find things to say. If a friend needs company, but silence is better than words at the time, you can take them to a beach and throw rocks in the water or show them a wonderful sim you can explore together. You can be with people and not have to be socially extroverted. You can listen to the chatty Cathies and talkative Tims and just express yourself without feeling pressure.

SpotON3D Dev region

And people find new interesting avenues for their creative pursuits. I have a friend who has found a whole new career in virtual education over at Inworldz. I met the creator of a whole new game grid called SpotON3d and it's sister grid Veesome, who wanted to offer a new look at virtual life. I heard about starting a new game grid first hand at Giant grid. I have met so many amazingly talented people who create, design, and build. So many generous people do that just to benefit the community. And even the ones running businesses often prove themselves to be so open and giving and friendly, that you just follow their pursuits in awe.

I could write a whole book about my mentor Flicka, who picked me up when I was ready to leave SL during my very first days. She took the confused newcomer under her wing and thought me so much about the way SL (and virtual life in general) works. But most of all she has thought me about generosity and kindness. She has been helping newbies for years now. You meet people she has helped and they just flourish. I have had people comment on my profile and the way my avatar looks and tell me I have to be an alt (an alternative character to a main one) to be so knowledgeable of SL. This is mostly thanks to Flicka and her patient guidance.

My friends and neighbors whom I know through Flicka form a community that is kind, supportive and frankly very easy to be around. They are never tacky or rude. They stick together, help each other and find ways to get you out of a sticky situation. They find new people to help and guide. They create, build and wholeheartedly embrace virtual life. I am so happy I have found these people and get to experience SL with them.

The other big group of friends that I spend most my days in SL with, and owe so much to, are the folk who come to the clubs at Amarantha, a sim bossed over by the lovable and most caring character, Badger Albatros. You have seen him in posts made by my lovely summer intern Rhinoh, who thinks of him as her favorite uncle. Well so do I, for sure. :) This sim is quite the melting pot of fun loving, accepting and unique characters. I am constantly surprised by the communal atmosphere and their knack for having fun. Nobody can throw a party like these people, and they do it every day. Dj's with such great and varied tastes in music, hosts that can charm anyone and make people feel good about themselves, patrons who accept newcomers wholeheartedly and yet rally behind their own when needed. In a group you meet so regularly, you end up having misunderstandings and even arguments sometimes, but at the end of the day this group of silly folk just makes you come back the next day and bring a smile to your face.

And from Amarantha I found my SL siblings, whom I love so much and could not do without. Thanks so much for being so funny and silly and bratty with me. ;)

There are some individuals whom do not belong to these groups but are very important to me, whom I also wish to thank for making my Second life amazing.

Met G while camping for fashion:

Me and my first friend on SL, Cindy:

For a while, I worked as a dancer. I met some cool people there as well.

And you blogger friends and readers have been such good people to work with and for. Thank you for each and every comment, thank you for following me! Thank you fellow bloggers for all the inspiration and amazing creativity. I will continue following you and linking to you in the future. And make no mistake, I am a huge fan! :)

So, to finish of this long and sentimental post, I want to wish you all the best. And if you are interested to see where it all began for me, here is my first post explaining what I wished from SL and how my first days had been so far. I think I have been given all that I wished for and much more, and that's all thanks to the fantastic people I now know and love.

By the way: Bloom dolls and filter cam hud

Cadence of writes about two very interesting things at once.

First of all, the photographic tool, called Filter Cam HUD, from MechanizedLife (SLurl), sounds really interesting. You can use a great set of tools within SL, no need for editing afterwards.

And the second interesting thing are the Surf Co's (SLurl) Bloom Dolls. SL's newest craze, as many blogs call them.

Yummy freebies

The strawberry cake in this post by Claire on MD Style Watch, looked so great, that I had to go for a visit to Poche (SLurl). Here are a few pictures from the store for you. They have a lot of freebies, as Claire says in her post. There's also a couple of lucky boards and they take part in charity events. And a lot of the great quality plants, for example, are just 50 lindens. The store surroundings look great.

Outfit details can be seen in my recent posts, the tee is a freebie from Bleh (SLurl).

So much to see

This post on Free*Style by Sileny is just amazing. I'm a fan, as you might have noticed.

While checking out the slurl's in the post I ended up in the Tableau sim (SLurl) and had another "omg this sim is awesome!" moment. So here are some pictures.

Clawtooth
I love the traditional belltower

I am expecting Snoopy's cousin Spike to show up anytime now.
I kinda always thought it was pretty icky that people put nakey pics on office walls. But at least this office is occupied a person with versatile tastes, as there are nakey women pictures on the walls and man magazines on the table. Apparently it's a casting office. No couch though.
This dude was the strong silent type. Not a word.
Surf couture (SLurl) sells gorgeous clothes. I have always wondered about movies that are set in some remote backwater place. Why do those places always have such gorgeous women?
Tres blah, next door, offers a free tote bag to new subscribers. I am sure you have noticed I have a secret bag addiction. Or not so secret. It's kind of a public addiction.
And in the next room.. oh my..
I might have to send Doyle here, Kari (SLurl) has all this cool stuff he would go nuts for.
The red smexy deco of the Pig (SLurl) trailor might look a bit risque to a good girl like me, but no worries, Jesus and Elvis are in the building. So it's ok to nap here.

I think I need to do part 2 of this sim review later. So much to see and this post is getting picture heavy. So let's end this journey here, nap, and come back later, ok?

Blog award :)

I got my first blog award. :) It 's from a rl friend, Taina, I have known and loved for years. She is such a delightful person, truly gorgeous in so many ways. Wish more people would be like her, things would be so much better on this planet. Her blog is in Finnish, way worth checking out. :) And my first award goes back to her!

I translated these rules and questions pretty quickly, so excuse me for any silliness. :)

So the deal is, having received the award, you answer a few questions, then you give the award to a few people and tell us why, and you go to their blogs to leave a comment telling them to pick it up. :)

When did you start your blog?
Pretty much the same moment I started on SL.

What do you write about, what is your blog about?
I write about the experiences I have on SL, and elsewhere in the metaverse. My most visible subject is fashion, but I also do sim reviews, write about building and try to cover important events and causes. Newbies are close to my heart, I try to offer them some tips along the way.

What makes your blog unique?
I started to do my blog this way naturally. I didn't really plan it. I just felt like showing people what the locations look like, so they can maybe decide easier, if they want to click the slurl. I guess my way of blogging fashion is new in that sense, I show the location. I absolutely love the amazing pictures so many fashion bloggers are taking. I myself feel I am not capable for such quality and detailed work as studio pictures require. I often notice my pictures are better when I pose on location.

What made you start blogging?
I wanted to give an account of my experiences, share what I saw with people. I also felt like telling the story of a newbie had some value. And I love blogging in general.

What would you change about your blog?
I often change the appearance and try new techniques. I have been wondering if I should have a more official type of a blog, but now I get to do that on SpotON3d, so I think this blog can remain a personal account.

And the blog award goes to..

Sleek home has been one of my favorite blogs for ages. Em Ellsmere finds the best deals in SL for your home and garden. I love the pictures, the look of the blog and Em's talent for making her blog both usable and beautiful.

Being Yordie Sands is a beautiful account of Yordie's life on SL. She often has new and interesting things to show us, and her heart is in everything she does. Yordie was one of the first people to comment on my blog when I started. We have not spent time together inworld or anything, but I feel like we are friends through our blogs.

Zillo Insist is a fashion lover's favorite. Prazillo Lemon has become a quick success in the SL fashion world, and for good reason. I like the professional look of her blog. She is a great photographer, as I can testify from personal experience as well as from having been a fan of her blog for a while now. Zillo is a fun person to hang out with and has a great sense of style.

Jule Lemondrop takes the most beautiful pictures that always have a fun consept in them and give you something extra. Her finds are interesting and her picks inspiring and I often find myself following her lead.

I love ir(regular) guy for making quality posts for the men of SL. Men are still a bit overlooked in the fashion metaverse, but blogs like these show that there are plenty of people who work to change that, and do it with skill.

Information on efforts to help the tsunami victims

Information on efforts to help the tsunami victims of Japan, and other affected areas, is coming in, and I will be posting about them, as soon as I find out. If you know of any efforts within SL and the other virtual worlds, I have not yet mentioned, please let me know.

--------------------------------------------

USC Textures (SLurl) will donate all the proceeds from this weekends sales to the Japanese Red Cross. 100% of L$ spent at the store will go straight to the charity.

--------------------------------------------

From March 16 to April 16, Radar Magazine will be hosting and sponsoring a series of events to help raise funds to benefit victims of the Japan earthquake and pacific tsunami relief fund in conjunction with Red Cross.

A designer can participate in two ways:

1) Setup an item for sale in the market
2) Create a one-of-kind outfit, dress, etc for the runway show. The items featured in the runway show will be auctioned off with all the proceeds going to the relief fund.
Volunteers and guests can help out by getting the word out anyway they can by blogging, getting friends involved or making a donation at one of the donation boxes on the sim.

I have an amazing new opportunity

I have an amazing new opportunity that I can now tell you about. I am so excited and honored to be part of a virtual community called SpotON3D. I am writing for their blogs, mainly the Veesome blog, and working with their team, getting to know the virtual experience better from within.
I will be sharing some information that has to do with both Second life and SpotON3D later, as there are new interesting ways to interact between game systems. I already talked about how my designer friend Gitana (SLurl) has transferred her quality shoes between grids so that you can have your favorite ones in both worlds. Later on I will show you how the cooperation between grids is enriching the gaming experience for all of us. Here is my first post to the SpotON3D blog.
When the tsunami releaf donation information is available, I will post about that regarding both worlds as well. You can learn more about SpotON3d by visiting their SpotON3D Biz Solutions (SLurl) inworld spot in SL.

I thought this picture of a beautiful gate, from the first live event I attended at the SpotON3D grid, MusicaJam at the SpotON3D Dev region, would be appropiately symbolic. :)

Zerbie Magic, a talented singer songwriter, was performing beautifully in this new fantasticly designed  region. She is known for her live performances in Second life and is now finding an appreciative audience in SpotON3d as well. She was also a great example of how the artistic community supports each other, as she was filling in for the intended performer, who was experiencing technical difficulties. You can find her by name in both worlds. If you are a motivated live performer yourself and wish to find new avenues for your art, this is a great event for you to get involved with.

Relay For Life, on SL

Prim Perfect posted about a charity fund raising event I thought sounds interesting, here is what they said:

"The RFLSL, now a staple of the Second Life calendar is the Second Life incarnation of the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event, Relay For Life (RFL).

This year, operating under the theme ‘Seasons of Hope’ the activities will start with the kick-off ceremony on the 12th March, alongside the launch event “Fashion for Life”.

Further information on RFL of SL can be found at the American Cancer Society website for RFLSL. There is also a Second Life wiki page with more history that some readers may find interesting".

Win some, get some for free

Just a quick post for those looking for free items.

Gillian's blog post has some links to freebies, mm's and lucky boards. And she promised to add more. You can wear your free or less than 10l outfits to the RFL Found fashion contest held at the opening party of Red river ballroom, March 13th.
Starlight's mainstore (SLurl) has lucky chairs and now she has added a MM board upstairs, by the group gifts.

I already blogged some of these in outfit posts, but here's the scoop where to find them. Free gifts from different labels at KMADD (SLurl)

CWS Fashion district (SLurl) has a new store location and some new free gifts.

Suzu's stuff and nonsense (SLurl) has a lot of freebies upstairs, mostly clothes. But what I find most interesting in the store are the kitchen and bathroom utilities. They are reasonably priced, low prim and yet have working doors, animations etc.

Tinies have their lucky chairs and freebies too, of course. Go visit Otterwise (SLurl). While tiny LR is looking at costumes, tiny Alana wants to try the piano!
Plenty more to see at Raglan shire. Tiny Alana just won a vampire hunter belt from Funny Bunny! (SLurl) Look out vampires!

Piece of candy (SLurl) still has the Blue diamond hunt going on, one linden for each diamond with a skin inside. If you are working on a low budget and want a quality skin, go take a look. And notice the free gown in the box.
